Goal Setting Made Easy!

Whether you are a CEO in training, an aspiring dancer, or an up and coming artist; you want to work at a steady progressively inclined pace towards your bigger picture. By now, we all should know that "Progress is indeed a Process" and "Patience is a Virtue". I'm sure have no desire to  rush to get nowhere fast - So fast that you miss the substantial work that's required behind this "busyness" everyone wants to somehow portray.  And I am also pretty sure we all know at least one person who is always so busy - busy - busy doing this, busy doing that but lacks productivity.

When we think about setting goals we tend to have these huge, lavish, extraordinary goals in mind. Indeed, we should definitely "think big" but it's going to be those smaller goal-oriented accomplishments that will foster us into that bigger extraordinary thought! It's a very simple technique to set goals and it works - so here it goes:

  • Write down your major long-term goal(the extraordinary one)
  • Under your long-term goal, write down what it will take to fully accomplish this goal.(These are your secondary long-term goals) Ask yourself questions such as: "Do I need some type of skill, trade, certification, or degree for this goal?
  • Directly following under your secondary goal, write out what it will take to get that goal accomplished. For example, if your secondary goal is to invest in a vehicle to open your own Mobile Pet Grooming Service (the extraordinary goal) then, you would write out what it will take to purchase a car or van. (down payment, co-signer, credit check, etc) You can't be mobile without some sort of vehicle right?
Do you see the pattern?

Once you have identified your goal, all you are then doing is breaking down what it will take to fulfill that goal. By the time you are done, you will have a ladder full of goals (short-term & long-term)

  • Create a feasible timeline and organize your goals by dates.
  • Hang your timeline somewhere visible where you are engaging daily. (office, closet door, back of bathroom door, mirror, etc)

Is it becoming clearer to you? The key is to (mentally) START at the top and visualize that it's already done. The only thing you are doing is navigating your way through the physical work.

Now it's time to manifest! ;)

Working your way up to larger sized goals is an important process. It is also a process that is over-looked often because this is where the true grind lies - in the work.

As always, i encourage and implement these teachings to my clients and with much practice, they not only become goal setters but more importantly they become goal accomplishers!
